Your First Visit

What to Expect

Your initial evaluation is not a typical PT appointment. It is a comprehensive, one-on-one session designed to get to the root of what is going on.

  • 60 to 90 minutes of dedicated, uninterrupted time
  • Review of injury history, surgical reports, and imaging
  • Hands-on movement, strength, and functional assessment
  • Objective baselines via force plates, dynamometry, or 3D motion analysis
  • Clear explanation of findings and a custom treatment plan
  • You leave knowing exactly what comes next

Dr. Alex Peters is the only physical therapist in Western New York available to the public with residency training in sports physical therapy. This is a highly competitive 13-month program where he received mentoring from experts in the field, collaborated closely with sports medicine physicians and orthopedic surgeons, and treated athletes from middle school through professional level. Impulse uses specialized equipment including force plates and 3D motion analysis to measure muscle forces and evaluate movement objectively. That level of clinical training and technology is not available at standard PT clinics in the Buffalo area.
We treat athletes, active adults, and kids. Our Buffalo clinic specializes in sports physical therapy, runners, ACL rehab, and performance-based programs. But you do not have to be a competitive athlete to benefit from our approach. We create individualized, custom programs for anyone who wants to move better, recover fully, and return to the activities they love. See who we help
We treat a wide range of orthopedic and sports conditions including knee pain, ACL reconstruction rehab, meniscus injuries, patellofemoral pain, shoulder injuries, labral repairs, rotator cuff issues, shoulder instability, Tommy John rehab, tennis and golf elbow, low back pain, sciatica, disc injuries, scoliosis, hip pain, labral repairs, FAI, ankle sprains, chronic ankle instability, concussion symptoms, neck pain, and headaches. If you are not sure whether your condition is a fit, that is exactly what the discovery call is for. View all services
If you are experiencing persistent pain, weakness, or limited motion, it is time to seek care. Early evaluation helps prevent complications and speeds recovery. You do not need to wait for a referral or for things to get worse. If you are unsure, the discovery call is a free, no-pressure conversation to help you decide.
Wellness and performance visits are designed for active individuals who do not currently have an injury or pain point but want to maintain optimal function, prevent injuries, or enhance athletic performance. Wellness visits focus on strength, mobility, and injury prevention. Performance visits are geared toward athletes seeking higher-level assessment and training, including movement analysis, strength testing, and sport-specific programming. We use objective tools like dynamometry and 3D motion analysis to personalize your program. Learn about our Wellness and Recovery program
Initial evaluations last 60 to 90 minutes. Follow-up treatment sessions are 60 minutes. Wellness and performance sessions are typically 30 to 45 minutes. Every session is one-on-one, giving you the full attention of your therapist the entire time.
Frequency depends on your condition, goals, and stage of recovery. Most patients start at one to two visits per week. Our goal is to make you independent as quickly as possible, not to keep you coming indefinitely. We give you the knowledge, the program, and the data to manage your own recovery.
We do not rely on guesswork or subjective measures. We have invested in state-of-the-art technology including VALD force plates, 3D motion analysis software, and Kinvent dynamometers. These tools allow us to track your strength, movement quality, and functional progress with objective data at every stage of your recovery.
Because of our performance-based model, you will likely be active and performing exercises during your session. We recommend athletic attire that allows full range of motion. If you are coming from work, you are welcome to change at the gym prior to your session.
Yes. We accept both HSA and FSA payments. We are happy to discuss payment options and help you understand how to use these funds for your care during the discovery call.
No referral is needed in New York State. You can book directly at Impulse PT and begin care immediately, no matter the injury. If your specific insurance plan requires a referral, we will let you know during the discovery call so you can get one before your first visit.
The No Surprises Act is a law that entitles self-pay patients (those not submitting to insurance) to a good faith estimate of their costs prior to treatment. While it is difficult to estimate total costs without an evaluation, if you request an estimate at or before your initial session, we will provide one. This ensures transparency and helps you plan ahead.
