Does Your Hip Pain Hinder Your Daily Life?

Does your hip pain prevent you from lifting weights, running, jumping, squatting, climbing stairs, getting up from a low seat, sleeping, or doing your regular work or chores?

Do these scenarios resonate with you?

❓You initially expected the pain to subside within a short period, but it persisted beyond that?

❓You attempted various remedies like heating pads, ice, and home TENS units, but they yielded no relief?

❓You even sought massages, but the pain resurfaced after a brief period?

❓You consulted a doctor who provided injections or prescribed medication, but the relief was only temporary?

❓You eventually resorted to avoiding activities that trigger pain, thinking it’s a manageable approach?

Frequently Treated Hip Conditions:

⚠️ Arthritis

⚠️ Labral Tears

⚠️Joint Instsability

⚠️Hamstring Strains

⚠️Femoroacetabular Impingement

⚠️Hip Flexor Tendinopathy

⚠️Iliotibial Band (IT Band) Syndrome

⚠️Pre/Post-Op Total Hip Replacement

Common Underlying Hip Pain Causes:

  • Impaired Mechanics: Reduced joint flexibility or muscle stiffness leading to limited range of motion, muscle weakness, and imbalanced posture.
  • Injury: Sudden impact or excessive stress on the hip tissues.
  • Chronic Compensations: Prior injuries or fear of future injuries causing avoidance of certain muscle groups while overusing others.

Impulse Physical Therapy Approach to Hip Pain:

  1. Break the Pain Cycle: We employ education, manual therapy, and techniques to enhance tissue mobility, effectively addressing and reducing pain.
  2. Enhance Joint, Muscle, and Nerve Mechanics: Our focus is on improving the mechanics of the joints, muscles, and nerves during daily functional tasks and sport-specific activities.
  3. Build Tissue Resilience: Through targeted loading, we strengthen the tissues to improve their capacity for enduring various demands, instilling confidence and reducing fear of re-injury.

Hip-Specific Treatments:

Correct Low Back and Pelvis Posture:We address posture-related issues in the lower back and pelvis, promoting proper alignment for improved hip function.

Enhance Joint Nutrition and Fluid Exchange:Using specific manual techniques, we open the joint space to facilitate better fluid exchange and nourishment of the hip joint.

Strengthen Gluteal and Hip Rotator Muscles:By targeting these muscle groups, we provide stability to the hip, enhancing overall function and reducing vulnerabilities.

Improve Tissue Mobility:Our approach includes massage, instrument-assisted mobilization, cupping, dry needling, and stretching to optimize tissue mobility.

Reduce Nerve Sensitivity:We employ targeted nerve exercises to alleviate numbness, tingling, and leg pain, promoting nerve health and functionality.

Progress Functional Activities:Gradually, we advance plyometric and functional activities such as jumping, running, squatting, and climbing to enhance overall hip performance.

Important Concepts to Understand

  1. Tissues Heal: The body can repair itself naturally, but sometimes it may get stuck in the inflammatory phase of tissue repair. In such cases, assistance may be needed to successfully transition to the recovery phase.
  2. Pain and Imaging Correlation: Pain is not always directly related to x-ray or MRI imaging results. It’s possible to see tissue damage on imaging without experiencing pain or functional limitations. Conversely, pain can occur even when there are no visible abnormalities on imaging, often due to nervous tissue oversensitivity.
  3. Soreness and Strength Gains: Post-exercise soreness is not the ultimate goal, but it’s not always a cause for concern. Achieving true strength gains involves applying an overload to the system, causing tissue micro-damage. As these tissues recover, they become thicker and stronger. Monitoring soreness can help determine if the tissues are ready for more load, need to maintain the current level, or require reduced training intensity until they are better prepared.
  4. Return to Activities: With proper education, correct mechanics, and progressive tissue loading, returning to previous or desired activities is usually achievable.
